Rusting Of Iron Malaysia | Destroy Iron Rust With Treatments
Rust, also known as iron oxide, is a product of the chemical reaction between iron and oxygen in the presence of water. Iron undergoes oxidation, that is – the iron molecules will combine with oxygen molecules to form iron oxide. Iron in fact, combines quite easily with rust as most forms of iron are not the pure form.
Rusting is an example of a process called corrosion where a piece of metal like iron gives up its electrons to another piece of metal. Hence, iron is said to be corroded as some of its molecules are combined with oxygen to form a new substance that is rust. If nothing is done, the piece of iron will eventually be eaten away completely.
Now imagine if that piece of iron was your car, your roof or an important piece of equipment in your company. You would definitely want to protect them from being a victim of rust. Thankfully, there are many ways to treat rust, from homemade methods to professional solutions. Here are some of the homemade or DIY methods that you can use to treat and remove rust.
Acid. Particularly, weak acids. These can vinegar, citric acid or acetic acid. It is best used by soaking the rusted objects into a bottle or a container and leave it for a few days for the acid to do its job. The efficiency and time will depend on the severity of the rust. However, you shouldn’t use strong acids like hydrochloric acid and nitric acid, as they will make the matter worse. Strong acids will oxidize the metal further and hasten the process of rusting.
Baking soda. Yes, baking soda has its use outside of baking. Simply mix the baking soda with water to form a paste and apply it to the rusted area. Leave it for a few hours before scrubbing it off with a toothbrush or a steel wool.
Electrolysis. It’s time to apply what you learned in chemistry class. Perhaps you never paid much attention in class or had just forgotten where you placed your chemistry book, here’s how you can use electrolysis to remove rust. First, you need a car battery and a bucket large enough to fit the rusted object. Fill the bucket with water. Next, you need to find another piece of metal which will act as the sacrificial metal. Make sure that a portion of the rusted metal is not rusted. Place both pieces of metal into the water and add a tablespoon of washing soda. Connect the sacrificial metal to the positive terminal and the non-rusted portion of the rusted metal to the negative terminal. Make sure that the connector for the positive terminal is above the water or it will be sacrificed as well. Now turn on the battery and let the process work for half a day. Check to see if rust has been removed. If not, turn it back on and let it sit for more hours until you are happy with the result.
The simplest way to remove rust is by using brute force. If you are ever in a need to work out your arm muscles, then buy some sandpapers and sand away the rust. Of course, this is not practical if the rusted object is large.
Now that we covered the different ways to remove rust, it is perhaps clearer that prevention is better than cure. To remove rust requires some sort of effort and it will only do for objects that are not too big such as screws. But what if you have large rusted objects such as roofs, machines or industrial tanks? How do you remove rust? Well, this is where Metal Roof Doctor comes in. Metal Roof Doctor is a company known for its revolutionary anti-rust coating service. Why go through all the trouble to remove rusts when you can just prevent it from happening in the first place. Metal Roof Doctor offers just that to you.
