Rusting Process Malaysia | We Help Prevent, Stop & Cure Rust

Iron oxide is just another name for rust. The process in which rust occurs may be just as simple as the exposure of an iron surface to oxygen and water over a long period of time. However, there is a more in-depth method in which rust is actually formed. It is always an added advantage to know that only iron or blends that contain iron can rust, but other metals can flake in similar ways.

Rusting occurs when iron or an alloy that contains iron, like steel or metal, is exposed to oxygen and moisture for a long period of time, that’s the basic process.  Over a period of time, the oxygen mixes itself with the metal at a microscopic level, creating a new compound called an oxide. This oxide then proceeds to weaken the ties of the metal itself.

The main facilitator for the rusting process is water. Iron or steel objects might appear to be solid, but water molecules can breach the atomic pits and cracks however small in any exposed metal. The hydrogen atom is the lightest of the chemical elements and has the simplest atomic structure. It is present in water molecules and easily can combine with other elements to form acids, which will lead to the corrosion or the formation of rust on the metal surface.

When chloride ions are present, as in the case with saltwater, the decay is likely to occur more quickly as the hydrogen level is elevated. Meanwhile, the oxygen atoms combine with metallic atoms to form rust which weakens the metal, making the structure to be brittle and crumbly.

Now, how does one prevent, stop and cure it? Prominently, coating and painting help put a stop to the problem of rust. Generally, Metal Roof Doctor’s hydrophobic coating can last up to a decade before another layer of coating is needed. The protective coating application helps to enhance the structural integrity of metals while at the same time prevent the corrosion process from taking place. The coating is designed to withstand the harsh UV photo degradation and the heavy downpour – the two major climates in Malaysia. This way, you can enjoy huge saving for metal parts replacement which could be invested in other more productive activities.

Metal Roof Doctor caters to nationwide demands so if you’re from any part of Malaysia such as Perak, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Melaka, and Johor, please feel free to give us a call or schedule a free site inspection NOW!
