Epoxy Painting
What is epoxy? Epoxy refers to the basic components and cured end products which could be discovered in epoxy resins. Another term used to denote epoxy resins, which is polyepoxides are reactive prepolymers as well as polymers which contain epoxide group in their structures. Epoxy painting technique utilizes the reaction of epoxy resins with either themselves through homo polymerization or with curatives through curing process. The chemical reaction that happens produce a thermosetting polymer with good mechanical properties, temperature and chemical resistance which serves as a high-performance coating on the surface of commercial buildings and industrial plants.
In the epoxy painting industry, the process of mixing two part epoxy coatings were carried out for heavy duty service where the epoxy resins are mixed in proper proportions and the resulting mixture is allowed to cure for a stated recommended time in order for it to dry. Such mixing systems provide a tough, protective coating with excellent hardness and rust resistant characteristics. After the mixing process is done, the paint could be applied in several ways on different surfaces. One of the most noticeable advantages in applying epoxy painting is that epoxy paints produce a surface finishing similar to powder coating for metal structures and facilities but do not require heat to set the finishing surface which can protect the surface from oxidation and renders the surface to be chemical and rust resistant.
Industrial epoxy paint like polyester epoxies could be used as powder coatings as well for example fusion bonded epoxy powder coating. This type of epoxy coating is prevalently used in providing rust resistant protection for steel pipes and fittings, transmission pipelines and acting as primers to strengthen the adhesion of excess paint coatings for further protection where corrosion is hard to avoid. Moreover, epoxy coating is also essential for decorative coating for several surfaces to improve the appearance of buildings and structures which could serve as weather resistance coating as well.
Industrial epoxy paint and glue have been widely used in rust preventive maintenance measures for various industries. The durable and cost saving characteristics of epoxy painting have enabled industrial facilities to be protected from unwanted corrosion and leakage which presents a good choice for commercial application in any industry.
