Coating Material
Having coating treatment for your industrial facilities is instrumental for your business to run smoothly and flawlessly. With our industrial, plant and facilities maintenance services, you will not have to worry your facilities might be damaged or broke down due to rusting and corrosion. Besides, it is totally safe to have coating treatment for your plants or industrial facilities as it does not have any harmful effect on your health and the environment.
Paint coating has three basic components which are the pigment, binder and solvent. Pigments are fine organic or inorganic particles which provide color and opacity. They may have other uses for example, conductive ability and texture variations depending on the purpose of coating. Binders are resins or oils which form the film component in the paint where they cross-linked during the curing stage to give adhesion of different strength depending on uses. Solvent is water or organic liquid used to dissolve the binders and let the coating materials to flow and be easily applied using brush or spray. These three components make up the general composition of the paint and render its protective properties for substrate surfaces as well as safe to apply. Moreover, there are three generic types of paints which are composed of different materials respectively:
- Air drying paints for example alkyds. This type of coating materials dry up through the oxidative process where it absorbs oxygen from the atmosphere but it has limited solvent resistance and poor chemical resistance.
- One pack chemical resistant paints in the form of acrylate rubbers and vinyl. This type of coating materials dries up through solvent evaporation instead of oxidative process and has poor solvent resistance but good chemical resistance.
- Two pack chemical resistant paints for example epoxy and urethane. This type of coating material is composed of two individual components which are mixed together before applying on a surface. However, the mixture has a limited time before it dries up and therefore has to be applied as soon as possible on the surface coatings. The chemical reactions can then produce a very strong cross-link film which has good solvent and chemical resistance. This type of coating has the best performance in protecting the underlying surface.
Additives may also be added in the coating paint to perform specific functions like speed up the reaction of crosslinking in binders and increase the viscosity of the paint for the ease of application.
