Rubber Painting

Rubber painting is a relatively smart technique which utilizes the properties of synthetic rubber or polyvinyl chloride compounds to form a protective coating on any surfaces especially on metallic structures. Polyvinyl chloride is a type of inexpensive plastic whereas synthetic rubber is a type of polymer or artificial elastomer where it is derived from petroleum products. Both types of rubber paints have similar coating uses which are widely used to protect industrial facilities to avoid rusting and corrosion from transpiring.

Generally, there are two types of rubber paint, chlorinated rubber paint and synthetic rubber paint.

  • Chlorinated rubber paint: This type of film coating is very flexible and is capable of providing a superb resistant to moisture both in acid and alkaline conditions. Besides, it has a good level of durability to ensure long-lasting coating. The adhesive properties of the rubber paint allow it to adhere to each individual layers when it is sandwiched in between the layers. It is non-toxic and resistant to chemicals, fungi and can dry quickly after being applied. However, coating using chlorinated rubber paint could not tolerate high heat which might alter the molecular structure of the paint. One of the edges chlorinated rubber paint has over other paints is the adaptability of the paint which could be applied both internal and external surfaces of industrial structures, making it very versatile.
  • Synthetic rubber paint: This type of film coating is composed of compounds which are formed due to the polymerization of unsaturated hydrocarbons where it is used to react chemically with elastomer to produce synthetic rubber and synthetic rubber paint. Because of the rubber properties in the paint, coating using synthetic rubber paint naturally has a flexible and stretchable texture. The coating is resistant to abrasion, corrosion and moisture. It is very strong in nature and not easily experience cracking in extreme weather condition. Synthetic rubber paint gives the surface finish a fine film of gloss and appearance. Similar to chlorinated rubber paint, it can dry quickly and could be applied to both interior and exterior structures.
